Check out the BraveHEART Baskets!

Our very first BHB was mailed down to MUSC to a little guy waiting for a heart transplant. It was SO exciting to send the first one out! A few days later, we took the first batch...13 BraveHEART Baskets! We have put together another round and they will probably go down in early September. We hope the kids have as much fun with them as we have! Here are some pics of the baskets for you to enjoy....

And the poem we put in each of the baskets...

BraveHEART Baskets are here!!

Yesterday we went shopping to complete our first set of BraveHEART Baskets! We were SO excited to get started, and even more excited to share the pictures.

For those of you who are not familiar with what BraveHEART Baskets are, let me back up a little. The idea for BHBs was born after witnessing the amazing ministry Rebecca Butcher started in memory of her little angel, Annabelle, with her Annabelle Baskets (http://www.annabellebaskets.blogspot.com/). Annabelle Baskets are given to babies in the PCICU (Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit) at MUSC after heart surgery. The baskets have cozy blankets, a stuffed animal, cute socks, and a hairbow or hat, depending on what's appropriate. They are absolutely adorable! When Jess and I were asked by Sara at Palmetto Hearts to make big kid baskets, we were really excited!

We toyed for a while with ideas for names, the contents of the baskets, and how we would do them for kids of so many different ages. After asking for ideas, our Palmetto Hearts friend...CALEB COOK came up with the name BraveHEART Baskets. THANK YOU CALEB!! We think it's a perfect name for the baskets, because these kids are so brave!

Now that we have a name, we are working on gathering goodies to fill them. We want to do baskets for both boys and girls ages 1-3, 4-6, and 7-10. We thought these age ranges would allow us to give the kids baskets that are more appealing and appropriate to them. Listed below are the items we hope to have to fill each basket:

  • sippy cup
  • book
  • stuffed animal
